Transforming Challenges into Opportunities

Our Story

Working with communities for sustainable development in Bangladesh

Gono Unnayan Prokriya (GUP) was founded on 1st April 2004 with a vision to empower communities and promote sustainable development in Bangladesh. Its founders, a group of dedicated development professionals, witnessed the challenges faced by marginalized communities, including poverty, lack of education, gender inequality, and limited access to health and livelihood opportunities.

Driven by a commitment to justice, equity, and inclusive growth, they established GUP to work directly with communities, listen to their needs, and support them in designing and implementing solutions for their own development. From the beginning, GUP adopted a participatory, community-led approach, believing that real change comes when people are empowered to shape their own future.

Today, GUP is a respected NGO in Bangladesh, implementing programs in health, education, women and youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and social advocacy. Its journey reflects the core belief that ethical practice, community participation, and sustainable solutions are essential to building a more just and prosperous Bangladesh.

We are working in Bangladesh on energy and environmental sustainability to promote renewable energy use, reduce carbon emissions, and protect natural resources. Our aim is to ensure access to clean and sustainable energy, raise awareness about environmental conservation, and support communities in adopting eco-friendly practices that contribute to a greener and more resilient Bangladesh.

Our Goals

Encourage the adoption of solar, wind, and other clean energy solutions.

Minimize pollution, carbon emissions, and natural resource depletion.

Educate communities about climate change, conservation, and sustainable living.

Align initiatives with national priorities and global goals for environmental sustainability.

In Summary

“Through energy and environmental sustainability initiatives, we aim to create a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Bangladesh for present and future generations.”

Gono Unnayan Prokriya (GUP) works on women and youth empowerment to promote equality, reduce poverty, and ensure sustainable development. Women and young people constitute a large part of Bangladesh’s population, yet many face barriers in education, employment, and decision-making. Empowering them through skills, education, and leadership opportunities enables them to contribute meaningfully to their families, communities, and the nation.

Our Goals

Ensure women and youth have fair access to education, employment, and leadership opportunities.

Provide training, entrepreneurship support, and life skills to enhance economic and social participation.

Enable women and youth to take active roles in community development and positive social transformation.

Contribute to national priorities, including Vision 2041 and relevant SDGs, through empowered and educated communities.
